October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

We were excited to find out that this month is dedicated to shelter dogs to find homes! Thank you to the American Humane Association for promoting awareness for all the beautiful dogs waiting to be adopted.

If only we could adopt a dog :( Definitely once we move into a house where our dog can have enough space to run or just lay around. We want to make sure we are ready for the responsibility and will be able to provide him/her with all the love, care and joy we can provide.

For those of you thinking about adopting, but a little unsure... Let us give you a little extra push!

Five Reasons Why it's Great to Adopt

      1. Be a Hero. Sadly, over four million cats and dogs are euthanized in the U.S. each year due to overpopulation. Giving a shelter animal another chance at life, is one of the greatest gifts anyone can give to another living being.

      2. Say No to Puppy Mills. Yeah sure it's cute when you see all the puppies and kittens at the pet store but the truth behind the cuteness is that pet store animals were bred in inhumane puppy mills. The "breeders" do not care about the animals. The cold hard truth: they only care about money. Prisoner dogs are bred to the point of exhaustion or death, in order to get the most litters out of them.

      3. Variety! The possibilities are endless! Dogs come in all shapes, sizes, colors and mixes. Visit a shelter and take a look at all the cute dogs. You might have a particular breed in mind, if not, follow your heart. You'd have to be the Grinch to avoid the dozens of hopeful eyes begging for love.

      4. Shelters have Purebreds too. If you have your eyes set on that West Highland White Terrier, you can find her at the local rescue or even at the purebred rescue. South Bay Purebred Rescue located in San Jose, finds homes for displaced purebred dogs. Mutts aren't the only dogs that deserve a second chance. Love their motto, "Until There are None, Adopt One."

      5. Find your BFF (Best Friend Forever) Whether mutt or purebred, adopting a dog not only makes you their hero, but their best friend for the rest of their lives. It truly is a remarkable feeling to sit down with your pet and know that you made their life so much better. To be greeted with excitement and adoration, even though you haven't been gone for too long, definitely makes a person's spirits soar. Suddenly, a bad day at work and the stress melts away with the sight of your furry friend.
