San Bruno Disaster

You may have heard of the gas pipe explosion that happened yesterday in San Bruno, California. About 37 homes were incinerated, at least 4 people dead and around 50 people are hurt. They are still investigating what caused the explosion.

What you may not know is that my boyfriend and his family used to live in that neighborhood. They know a lot of the people who have lost their homes and whose lives have changed drastically. It was surreal to have Nick point out his childhood home while we watched the news.

Surrounding Bay Area communities have come together to donate blood, provide shelter, food, clothing and the Peninsula Humane Society and the local Petco has been kind enough to take in displaced pets. On my commute home, I teared up as I listened to KGO radio's story of a family relieved to be reunited with their Black Lab puppy. The puppy's owner said, "We've got Lila, so our family's complete now. We can get another house if we need to."

Despite the sadness that goes along with this tragedy, it is consoling to find out that kind hearted people still exist in this world.

Thank you to all the firefighters, doctors, nurses, volunteers... to everyone who has helped those affected. Please help us pray for all the people whose lives have been altered by this disaster.
